PROJECT TYPE:
Design and construction of a General Practice,
Radiology, Pathology, Allied Health and Specialist Medical Clinic.

LOCATION: Dandenong South, Victoria

SIZE: Approximately 400 sqm

COMPLETION DATE: Q1, 2022

PROJECT BACKGROUND

In recent years, Melbourne’s south-east has experienced a growing demand for general practice health services. Principle GP, Dr Hamid Fairoos has experienced this firsthand in his clinic, Keys Medical Centre in Keysborough, that he established five years ago.

The demand for medical services in the area has arisen for two reasons: An aging population that typically requires more services, more often, coupled with an influx of small block housing developments, increasing the number of residents.

Dr. Hamid’s medical practice was almost at capacity and with insufficient space to expand, setting up another General Practice facility as a sister clinic was the most practical solution.

Our vision for this space was to ensure that our patients feel comfortable while they wait for their appointment. We are very satisfied with the service and quality of their work. Well done, Eagleheart!”  Dr. Hamid Fairoos – Principle GP

SCOPE FOR A NEW CLINIC

Keys Medical Centre already had a well-established patient base, so it was important that a secondary site was located in close proximity. This would allow the practice to utilise staff, doctors, and patients, across the two medical clinics.

The prospect of a new sister clinic would allow them to take on new patients and offer existing patients a range of allied health and specialist services. The dilemma facing Dr. Hamid was that he had no idea how to put his vision into practice. Engaging Eagleheart was a natural choice for him, given he had previously worked with the team on a prior fitout project.

Eagleheart worked with Dr Hamid to identify his needs and vision, and subsequently undertook an extensive property search on his behalf. We identified a suitable property that met his brief, just 3.5kms away in Dandenong South.

VISION FOR THE SPACE

Patient, Doctor, and Nurse wellbeing was a focus during the design phase, taking into consideration workflows, ergonomic design and functionality. The design team worked with the client to identify his vision for the space, presenting several potential floorplans and designs to meet his ultimate goal:

“To accommodate General Practice, Radiology, Pathology, Allied Health and Specialist Services under a single roof-line.”

The new medical practice accommodates:

  • Twelve consulting rooms
  • A two-bed treatment room
  • On-site pathology, x-ray, and ultrasound facilities
  • A separate nurses room
  • Spacious reception
  • A waiting area that can accommodate thirty patients, and
  • A staff tearoom

The space is divided into three separate waiting areas, each of ample size that provide comfort and privacy for all patients.

The large consulting rooms are sound-proof ensuring patient-doctor privacy can be retained, and with the convenience of services on-site, patients can have their consultations, testing and radiology services attended to, quickly.

The entire medical space achieves full disability compliance. The build from start to finish was overseen by the Eagleheart project team and delivered to an exceptionally high standard.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE DESIGN

De-medicalising the space through clever design techniques was key to the success of this project. This included:

  • The use of curves to provide dynamic movement in the space
  • LED lighting design that represents a heartbeat
  • Timber and neutral tones that make the space warm and inviting
  • Stone used as a feature element and to help brighten up the space
  • Greenery that represents life and what the medical centre is all about

The successful use of these design principles is aimed at helping to reduce anxiety and stress. It is a stunning architectural example of what a medical space can be.

Greens Medical Group truly is a warm, calm, and inviting environment, from the moment patients arrive for their appointment.

THE PROJECT OUTCOME

Dr Hamid Fairoos and his team take pride in their new medical space. They offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare for those residing in their area.

His team of well-trained doctors and nurses have access to advanced technology and state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, to meet all healthcare needs.

The project has also been recognised for its design and awarded two separate design awards in September 2022:
