PROJECT BACKGROUND

Eagleheart partnered with Lake Imaging to deliver a new purpose-built radiology clinic in the coastal town of Ocean Grove, Victoria.

The plan was to relocate to a much larger site with the plan to bring the first MRI scanner to the community of Ocean Grove. They had outgrown their current clinic due to the growing number of referrals for medical imaging services. The town has seen a steady increase in permanent residents taking advantage of remote work options.

The project team at Lake Imaging found a warm shell space within the neighbourhood shopping centre, and engaged Eagleheart initially for an early site analysis.

SCOPE FOR A NEW CLINIC

One of Eagleheart’s Project Consultants met with the project team onsite to determine if the space would accommodate their plans for their new radiology practice, including provision for MRI.

Being such an expansive 530sqm space and with the base build already complete, it was important to assess the site in terms of access and plumbing requirements, with the floorplan framed around existing services without compromising on workflow.

Power was a significant consideration particularly with their plans to run a range of demanding services including MRI, CT, X-ray, OPG and DEXA at the same time.

VISION FOR THE SPACE

The design and construction of Lake Imaging’s eighteenth clinic involved collaboration with their General Manager, project and marketing teams. Working together we were able to ensure that their new flagship clinic would reflect and evolve Lake Imaging’s brand identity and set a benchmark for their future locations.

The floorplan is focused on staff and patient security with access control doors separating key areas of the radiology clinic. Patients can be triaged based on their needs with separate access to the clinic. A dedicated ambulance bay is located at the rear of the clinic, with direct access to modality services and the treatment room.

• A generous reception and 25-seat waiting area
• Additional patient waiting zones throughout

• Three ultrasound rooms
• Mammography room
• X-ray room
• OPG room
• DEXA room
• 2-bed treatment/recovery room
• Radiology write up areas
• Private offices and admin rooms
• Staff kitchen, lockers, and private amenities
• Patient change rooms and
• In-clinic DDA compliant toilet and washroom facilities

Eagleheart undertook the initial site assessments, arranged all permits, building certificates, radiation testing for the modality equipment and obtained the certificate of compliance. We also worked with their selected modality providers to ensure the smooth integration of their equipment into the floorplan design and build timeline.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE DESIGN

The design was inspired by Ocean Grove’s seaside charm and incorporates organic curves and warm timbers that provides a calm, non-clinical environment.
A cohesive palette of colours and finishes creates visual continuity with their existing clinics, while introducing a fresh, modern aesthetic that sets a benchmark for future locations.
Key features include a custom contoured reception desk and expressive timber battens. These elements add character, enhance spatial flow and functionality, yet are practical for everyday use.
